Activities for community-based health education and practices were held during the 2023-2024 academic year of the Department of Public Health Nursing.

A short report and some photographs regarding the activities of the Department of Public Health Nursing regarding community-based health education and practices during the 2023-2024 academic year are presented below.

1. Village Application (Prof. Dr. Gülbu Tanrıverdi):

Villages Visited: Kumkale, Dümrek, Eviler, Çırpılar, Koşuburnu, Denizvizyondu, Derbentbaşı, Mahmudiye, Pınarbaşı, Ahmetçeli, Pıtıreli, Çetmi, Sarıdüz, Karıncalık.
Activities Performed: Monitoring of pregnant women, postpartum women, the elderly and children; home visits; blood pressure measurements and individual health education in village schools, coffeehouses, homes and streets.
Trainings Given: Peer bullying, quitting smoking, diabetes, hypertension, cancer protection, diseases transmitted from animals, the importance of water and water saving, waste disposal and health hazards.
Health Center Visits: Eviler, Mahmudiye, Kumkale Family Health Centers and Pınarbaşı and Koşuburnu health houses were visited and information was obtained.

2. Çanakkale Nursing Home (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Melike Yalçın Gürsoy):

Activities: Spending time with elderly people living in nursing homes, hypertension, height and weight screenings, individual health training.
Supports: Assisting with the treatment and care of the elderly on rehabilitation floors, cognitive activities.

3. Golden Years Life Center (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Melike Yalçın Gürsoy):

Activities: Workshops with elderly individuals, health screenings (hypertension, height, weight, blood sugar) and individual health trainings.
4. Community Health Center (Assistant Professor Dr Özden Erdem):

Environmental Health Assessments: The Community Health Center and its surroundings were examined in terms of environmental pollution, garbage separation and school health.
Training and Information: Services provided to pregnant women, reproductive health services, technology addiction screening, violence prevention, suicide protection, vaccination cabinets and national vaccination calendar, smoking cessation counseling.
Applications: Water analysis, chlorine test, microbiological and chemical examinations, mammography, fecal occult blood, HPV and Pap smear tests.

5. Healthy Living Center (Research Assistant Gözde Özsezer):

Health Screenings: Hypertension, vision, BMI, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease risk screenings, body fat measurement.
Trainings: Healthy nutrition, hand hygiene, accident prevention, family planning, chronic diseases, physical activity, tobacco and substance addiction.

6. TRSM-Tuberculosis Dispensary (Specialist Nurse Sadegül Hasanova):

Information: Tuberculosis disease and its infectious risks, drug information, PPD test.
Activities: Handicrafts and ceramics workshop activities, music and dance activities at the Community Mental Health Center.

7. Belediye Atam Nursery (Nurse Ayla Özkaya):

Training Topics: Hand washing, oral and dental health, healthy nutrition, water, paper, electricity saving, recycling, technology addiction, vitamins.
Activities: Transforming yoghurt buckets, reading books, observation and games.

8. Hüseyin Akif Terzioğlu Primary School (Nurse Canan Coşan):

Training Topics: Hygiene, accident prevention, savings, healthy living, technology addiction.
Screenings: BMI screening, hearing screening.

9. ÇOMÜ Nursery (Specialist Nurse Fatma Sebahat Yılmaz):

Activities: Oral and dental health screening, hand hygiene, height and weight measurements, observation of psychomotor skills, various activities and trainings.
Trainings: Games, ceramic studies, communication with nutritional problems, emergency interventions.

10. Hüseyin Akif Terzioğlu Secondary School (Nurse Nedret Çiçek):

Education Topics: Peer bullying, nutrition, hygiene, breast cancer early diagnosis, disaster management.
Applications: Scans and individual trainings, stand setup, health week events.
